FCPS and the VHSL approve the start of return to play.
We are excited that FCPS and the State have approved a Phase 2 return to play plan. Please see information below.
FCPS has approved a plan to resume out-of-season practice activities beginning on June 23, 2020. Please note that any workouts are VOLUNTARY for coaches and student athletes.
This is what students and parents need to know about this plan.
- These workouts are intended for rising 9th through 12th graders. Class of 2020 graduates are not eligible to participate.
- Workouts are not required.
- Vulnerable individuals should not participate in these workouts.
- Students must pass a pre-activity screening – no fever (temperature of 100.4 or greater), cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, or loss of taste/smell.
- Students should bring a cloth face covering, which will be required any time social distancing cannot be maintained; if participants are at least 6 feet apart, no mask will be required.
- Upon arrival at the designated area, coaches will conduct a pre-activity screening – no fever (temperature of 100.4 or greater), cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, or loss of taste/smell. Students should remain in their car during this process.
- Students MUST provide their own water bottle (with at least 32 oz. of water). No shared coolers will be available to re-fill water.
- Anyone with symptoms, a temperature above 100.3 or who does not have adequate water will be sent home. If four students arrive together in the same car and one of the four students has symptoms or has a temperature above 100.3, all four students will be sent home.
- Each participant MUST have an Emergency Care form accessible to the coach if needed.
- At this time, physicals are not required for these workouts, but this is subject to change at any time, so it is advisable to have the physical exam done ASAP. Physicals will be required for try-outs when fall sports begin. Please bring in or email the completed VHSL physical form to the Activities Office.
- Workouts will take place only on the West Potomac High School campus. No use of indoor facilities is permitted. No use of sports equipment is permitted, so balls, gloves, sticks, etc. should be left at home.
- Students should arrive in athletic apparel, a mask, and 32 oz. of water – that’s it!
- Workouts will last no longer than two hours (includes pre-activity screening). Students are encouraged to return home immediately to shower and change clothes.
